Locals in action on day one of Heineken Open

This morning the Heineken Open tournament gets started at the Auckland Tennis Centre,New Zealand number of players will be in action.

The national men's champion Rubin Statham is the first name in the final round of qualifying, Statham faces the world number 72 Pere Riba of Spain for a place in the main draw.

Michael Venus,Davis cup team member,is in on a wildcard and is third up against frequent Auckland visitor Tommy Robredo in a tough first round match... Robredo's ranked 50th in the world while Venus is 329th.

In the doubles later on against a Czech/German combination two more New Zealand Zealanders, Marcus Daniel and the Russian-born Artem Sitak, play together.The late singles match sees 2008 champion Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany taking on Argentina's Carlos Berlocq.
